The gradual Islamization of North Africa and the building of the Great Mosque are briefly evoked: in the year 50 of the Hegira, the Moslems, led by Okba Ibn Nafia, settled for good in Africa and set up an encampment (in Arabic : Kayrouan), hence the name of the city which was to extend its influence all over the Maghreb.

Then we discover the mosque, the majestic structure as well as the exquisite details, while the history of Islam in Africa is narrated.The specificity of the Moslem prayer room and its various roles are brought to light through their architectural consequences.
