Egg's story

a film by
Mohamed CHARBAGI
(12', 1975-1976)

A brown egg-shaped character, living in a poverty-stricken country where he cannot survive, decides to emigrate to a land inhabited by white "eggs". He is first turned back, then finally manages to enter it. Attracted by the charms of this new civilisation, incarnated by a long-lashed white female, he tries to become white, but only succeeds in becoming whitish. He is rejected by the community which considers him as an intruder.

Back in his native land , he is rejected by his own people, since he is no longer himself. He tries but fails to recover his original colour and identity, then jumps off a dune and breaks into pieces.

This film has been awarded the Quality Label by the French Centre National du Cinéma. It was selected by the Carthage Film Festival, the FIFEF (where it was awarded the New Orleans City Prize), the Oberhausen Festival and Cinema Different (cinémathèque Française Cannes, 1977).
