Elektra,
fragments of a production

a film by
Mustapha HASNAOUI
(49', 2002)

Early in 2002, Stéphane Braunschweig, the director of the National Theatre of Strasbourg, settles for a few weeks at the Opéra du Rhin to produce « Elektra », by Richard Strauss.

This film depicts the production process from the early stages up to the final dress rehearsal. Stéphane Braunschweig is seen at work with performers, costume and set designers, electricians, and the film shows how, slowly, under his direction, a succession of small gestures and movements leads to the final work.

The challenge of this film is to provide clues to the spectator of « Elektra », an opera with a complex plot, through an analysis of the creative process.
